Memorial Day Poems

--

We are sad within our memory,
Lonely are our hearts today,
For the one we loved so dearly
Has forever been called away.
We think of (him)(her) in silence,
No eye may see us weep,
But many silent tears are shed
When others are asleep.

--

To those we have loved and lost
Unto this thing that we call warfare;
Brave and bold although we are never told
Courage can be over just as soon as it's there.

Tools of the trade are not forgiving
Against them there is little chance;
But over and over our boys go out there
And with the devil dance!

Although this day is special
For the memories it brings;
We think of you everyday
In our hearts you are the king.

We miss you very much
Talk about you all the time;
Mum especially gets very sad
Though her love for you does shine.

God Bless Our Native Land

God bless our native land,
Land of the newly free,
Oh may she ever stand
For truth and liberty.

God bless our native land,
Where sleep our kindred dead,
Let peace at thy command
Above their graves be shed.

God help our native land,
Bring surcease to her strife,
And shower from thy hand
A more abundant life.

God bless our native land,
Her homes and children bless,
Oh may she ever stand
For truth and righteousness.

Over all these years
You'd think we would have learnt;
That sometimes force doesn't work
Respect and honor to be earned.

War versus peace I don't think we can choose
Any sane person would go for the peace;
But argue insistently,oh what a waste
All that energy! If only it would cease!

Our fathers, sons and brothers
Sisters now are joining in;
Your bravery and love for others
Is deep underneath your skin.

So bravery, conviction you've dared to do your part
We need to Thank You for feeling that way;
As we all can't do what you do,
"Thank You"from our hearts is what we need to say!

We've argued ever since
Cain killed Abel years ago;
We're supposed to be the clever ones
But selfishness and greed still flow.

The world will be a better place
When evil has been got rid;
The suffering and torment though
The human price is the highest bid.

The cost in tears and heartbreak
The broken lives and bones;
As soon as possible
Let's bring our soldiers home.

Your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions,
and where there is no vision the people perish.
