Retirement Verses

Retirement verses at long last, the ones you've been waiting for.
They are free for your non commercial use.

I thought the hard work was all done
Now I'm thinking of what to do;
The choices are so great
What do I want to do?

All the plans have a-not yet factor
Built in because there's choice;
Decisions not my forte
I have yet to find my voice.

Shall I, shan't I that is the question
Do I or don't I, another one too;
Get up now - not yet
Shall I cook or eat out - or make another brew?

Procrastination is the thief of time
I've complained for many years;
That me time was in short supply
If I waste it there'll be tears.

It's No Job, No Stress, No Pay
It's goodbye tension...hello pension
It's spending your kids inheritance
It's when work never gets a mention
Take life with a pinch of salt
A shot of tequila and a wedge of lime
Do nothing at all
But take your time
All the meaning has gone out of weekends
Now you have a Life
With half the money
And twice the wife
Have a terrific retirement
You earned it!

The long awaited retirement plan
I can now start to implement;
What was it again I always said?
I know I was expecting an increment.

That was the bit to pay off some debts
So I could have some fun;
Insurance and bankers have seen to that
I can't do anything with anyone.

I've worked hard and not played
As much as others have;
More fool me is what I say
Now to my dreams I wave.

So, back to the grindstone I suppose
I could go back part time;
They'll save me tasty bits and bobs
At least the choice is mine.

I can read and write and paint.
Can even aspire to be a saint.
Left alone,
I could travel, teach and tutor.
Share guide and mentor Someone.
You my friends can remain blind
And kind
Or see in me a New find
Making again a difference.

Retirement Verses

Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved the earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
Alfred Tennyson

You can now live by this motto:
Didn't care yesterday.
Didn't care today.
Probably won't care tomorrow.

--

Now you are retired
You no longer can excuse;
All the things that need doing
Your job was your only ruse.

Your time that seemed so long at first
Now rushes past in a flash;
You don't know how you found time to work
Got so much to do-Must dash!

WICKED!

You can try out a fun retirement job
Such as a cinema assistant and then quit when you've seen all the films or when you get bored.

--

You can call your former co-workers while they are at work and tell them that you have just got out of bed and might go back for a nap after your midday breakfast.

--

Now you are retired

You no longer can excuse;

All the things that need doing

Your job was your only ruse.

Your time that seemed so long at first

Now rushes past in a flash;

You don't know how you found time to work

Got so much to do-Must dash!

A new motto is what you need

You didn't care yesterday;

You're not caring today either

You probably won't care tomorrow.

Somethings never change!

The golf course looks so attractive

So much more than mowing the lawn;

You could lay in bed all day now

But you keep waking up at dawn.

Age [along with retirement] appears to be best in four things — old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read.

Above all, it is a mistake to retire too late in life
because you don’t get another chance to do it right!
There are great experiences that come from
The joy of not working.

You can now see the grandchildren more often

Remembering what hard work they are;

Although full of so much pleasure

You never knew you were that popular.

Others will see you with time on your hands

Not understanding how it is full;

That you have plenty to attend to

On your heartstrings they'll pull.

So find your hobbies that are not indoors

Volunteering with others the same;

Be firm and frank but always thank!

As your own life back you claim.

Question: Why do retirees count pennies?
Answer: They are the only ones who have the time.

**

Question: Why are retirees so slow to clean out the basement, attic or garage?
Answer: They know that as soon as they do, one of their adult kids will want to store stuff there.

Question: Why does a retiree often say he doesn't miss work, but misses the people he used to work with?
Answer: He is too polite to tell the whole truth.

On the last day here we'd like to say
Well done you! You've made it to the end;
You've worked hard all your life
And our best wishes send.

Your office already seems pretty empty but
We know your hobbies vary and will keep you entertained
All very strange for us and a new boss coming
But we will miss you and your anecdotes all the same.

Enjoy every retirement day as if it was your last
and one day you will be right about it.

Retirement is a time
to look back
with satisfaction,
and a time
to look ahead
with anticipation.
A time to fill
each day
with enjoyment.
A very special
time for you.

Congratulations

Retirement Poems

Retirement is a time
For feeling glad to be alive,
A time when friendships blossom
And enthusiasms thrive.

A chance to do the special things
You always wished you could.
Retirement is a special time
For knowing...life is good.

Congratulations on your Retirement

Many people don't know how to stop
So they send us to have lessons;
We've shown them a thing or to
Just who do they think they're messin'!

We've worked and worked and need to find
A passion an interest to call our own;
Not all are into needlework
Although many seeds we've sown.

Travelling is a Gods send
It can take up a lot of the day;
Sittin on the Metro
Going round and round "I say"

Meeting friends and neighbours
And shopping in the Toon;
We have them round for tea
And say " Hope to see you soon."

The grandchildren are a treasure
And make us laugh so much;
We find them very tiring
Those little such and such.

We don't know how we found the time
To go to so called work;
As we're so busy from dusk to dawn
I now have a choice to shirk or not to shirk.

Now I can have a lay-in
Throw the alarm clock out the door:
I don't have to worry
As I don't have to go to work no more.

I have waited for this day
So very long you see;
Because the daily trudge of my job
Was actually killing me.

So freedom beckons and the days seem long
How the hours am I going to fill;
I've got no idea yet, so far so good
But I know that I surely will.

Clocking on and clocking off
That is now days gone by;
When somebody is timing me
And looking saying"Why"?

Fresh air breaks should be compulsory
At least one every hour;
The boss said "True my friend
But nicotine turns it sour"!

I will smoke to my hearts content
But I know I ought to stop;
The doctor said I should you know
Otherwise short retirement I'll cop!

I've got to go 'cos I am really knackered
Ive always blamed it on everything else;
Pollution, age or the time of the month
But it's really that the work repulses.

My life will now be worth living
Being fruitful and having fun;
Spending time with those I love
Being in my garden sitting in the sun.

Forever, and forever, farewell, Cassius!
If we do meet again,
why, we shall smile;
If not, why then this parting was well made.

by William Shakespeare.

**

It's Good...But
No more rush hour driving
To start and end your day
No more early alarm calls
But..much less pay
No more back stabbing
Or rising to the bait
No more phone calls from the boss
Asking you to work late
But...having to get by
On half your hourly rate
Now you have all day
To sit or doze to stay to go
Anywhere you like...
..cheaply
You've got less dough

Travel around the world
Do anything you've desired
But do it economically
Now that you're retired

An Ode to Old Age

There's quite an art to falling apart as the years go by,
And life doesn't begin at 40.
That's a big fat lie.
My hair's getting thinner, my body is not:
The few teeth I have are beginning to rot.
I smell of Vick's Vapo Rub, not Chanel No:5;
My new pacemaker's all that keeps me alive.
When asked of my past, every detail I'll know,
But, what was I doing 10 minutes ago?
Well, you get the idea, what more can I say?
I'm off to read the obituary, like I do every day;
If my names there, I'll once again start -
perfecting the art of falling apart.

**

The golf club days now melt into one
I don't know how I found the time;
To go to work and do odd jobs
Even when the sun does shine.

Time hasn't stopped or even slowed
I though that I'd have time on my hands;
It's going even faster now
The timer full of that sand.

My friends are what keep me sane
And it's good to keep in touch;
As friends and family are
The ones I love so much.
