They say that humans are the best
I don't believe that's true;
For loyalty and companionship
Only a dog will do.

They don't complain or say a word
When you've muttered and you've moaned;
Taking them out in all the weathers
You've groaned and groaned and groaned!

They know that walking is good for you
Fresh air will help you too;
It's the only time they see their friends
Although really they love only you.

Tell them your tales and tell them your woes
They never share a word;
It's all very confidential you know
And never gossip stirred.

I miss you so much and who can I tell
All my hopes and aspirations too;
You never laughed or taunted me
Oh Billy! I really loved you!

I just wanted to let you know that I made it home.
The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take too long.

Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new
I wish that you could close your eyes and that you could see it too.

Please try not to be sad for me.
Try to understand God is taking care of me...
I'm in the shelter of His hands.

Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain.
Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again.

Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing.
I really have to go for now... I've just got to try my wings.

The Story of Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I have lost my best friend today
My little dog who used to lay;
Her gentle head upon my knee
And share her silence alone with me.

She'll come no longer to my call
Or retrieve her favorite ball;
A voice far greater that my own
Has called her to His golden throne.

And though my eyes are full of tears
I Thank him for the happy years;
He let her spend down here with me
And for her love and loyalty.

My little ball of fluff
Who grew quite big enough;
Has played and meowed
Was also strong and very tough.

She fought off the kids
And the neighbours Tom;
She rolled around the garden
Loved by everyone.

Her fishy treats that she so loved
We always screwed up our faces;
But now she's gone we know not where
Just gone to other places.

** We miss you now when we walk alone
No one to play with or to call for;
It's not the same around the house
With you always bounding to the door.

Ah,Are You Digging On My Grave
For dog lovers everywhere!

Ah, are you digging on my grave,
My loved one? - planting rue?"
No: yesterday he went to wed
One of the brightest wealth has bred.
It cannot hurt her now,' he said,
That I should not be true.

Then who is digging on my grave,
My nearest dearest kin?
Ah, no: they sit and think, What use
What good will planting flowers produce?
No tendance of her mound can loose
Her spirit from Death's gin.

But someone digs upon my grave?
My enemy? - prodding sly?
Nay: when she heard you had passed the Gate
That shuts on all flesh soon or late,
She thought you no more worth her hate,
And cares not where you lie.

Then, who is digging on my grave?
Say -- since I have not guessed!
O it is I, my mistress dear,
Your little dog , who still lives near,
And much I hope my movements here
Have not disturbed your rest?

Ah yes! You dig upon my grave...
Why flashed it not to me
That one true heart was left behind!
What feeling do we ever find
To equal among human kind
A dog's fidelity!

Mistress, I dug upon your grave
To bury a bone, in case
I should be hungry near this spot
When passing on my daily trot.
I am sorry, but I quite forgot
It was your resting place.

I had no better friend
Faithful, loving right to the end
I knew he was getting on
But I can't believe he's gone

I look for him when I come home
Even tho' I know I'm now alone
The pain is so strong
When will it ease and be gone
